It’s been for sale since 2013, but at long last, the spectacular mountaintop home of comedian Bob Hope has sold. Bought by billionaire Ron Burkle for $13 million, the sale price is a huge drop from its original listing price of $50 million. Still, it joins a list of some truly eye-popping sales in the Coachella Valley that took place this year.
The 6-bedroom, 10-bath home on 6.2 acres has 23,366 square feet of living space, almost surpassing Lautner’s Arango House in Acapulco with 24,757 square feet. Located at the very top of gated and guarded Southridge Drive, the house also has a pool, tennis court and landscaped waterfall. Incidentally, the Hope house is just up the hill from another John Lautner home, the Arthur Elrod house—which just sold for a cool $7.7 million in September.
This isn’t the first architecturally significant purchase for investor/philanthropist Ron Burkle. He’s also the proud owner of Frank Lloyd’s largest textile-block home, the Ennis House in Los Angeles.
